Purkepar, a small Village/hamlet in Sindewahi Taluka in Chandrapur District of Maharashtra State, India. It comes under Purkepar Panchayath. It belongs to Vidarbh region located 57 KM towards North from District head quarters Chandrapur, 15 KM from Sindewahi and 836 KM from State capital Mumbai. Still untouched by Government facilities.

Aditya Tamshettiwar and his NGO SOMETHING SOCIAL comes to rescue to these villagers. From Health awareness camps, free medical camps along with medicines to food and clothing in this pandemic of Covid-19 is provided by SOMETHING SOCIAL.
Inheritance of social service from his parents have impacted him to serve for the social cause and taken the responsibility of this Village, Aditya says.
Aditya comes from younger generation hence many youths have shown keen interest in his organisation to take part and also supported to help these people.

Just like parents gives new clothes and gifts to their children similarly SOMETHING SOCIAL has adopted this Village and provided by organising an special event on the occasion of Diwali called “One Diwali for society”. In this event they have donated new clothes, snacks and books to all the children of Purkepar residents.

After little progress they have saw the need of Education as the basic necessity after Food, Clothing, Residence. So they have also installed a reading library for the students and also given free books for students to read. To encourage the students regarding the importance of study and benefits obtained by study culture, they have also organised essay writing competition for them.

Monthly there is a health camp organised by SOMETHING SOCIAL in which free doctor’s consultation and free medicines are given to all the needy people at Purkepar. Local body of media also covers various medical camps happening at this site.

Since this is village and there is abundance chance of becoming self sufficient through Nature, so, SOMETHING SOCIAL has decided to use their skills on themselves and make them self employed. Like Bamboo wood which can be converted into different products from furniture to hand bag, everything is done by both men and women according to their nature of skills. Similar to this is Cow dung products. Regarding marketing and selling of the products, everything is taken care by something social via nearby cities. In this way the Purkepar people’s skill is awarded and given all the basic necessities to become self sufficient and live a happy satisfied life.

During this time of Pandemic SOMETHING SOCIAL has arraged wear mask campaign to provide all of them masks and sanitizers, food kits and essential services as per their needs. Taking full responsibility of these people just for the cause of service can be seen by this example that they have also arranged funds for the girl marriage in Purkepar village.
Since there is a great need of supporting each other and helping to progress, we are having full of hopes and optimism that each class of people, specially youths, from the society will come forward and support in this noble cause.

Let’s talk … Something social !

Within the length and breadth of a vast country like India, there are numerous villages which are often overlooked by the government and whose majority of development depend on Non- Governmental organizations.

Emerging from the vidarbh region in maharashtra, located a little far-off from Chandrapur, is one such village – ‘Purkepar’.

A village so little that its entire population can literally be hand counted. Livelihood is difficult in this village with no structural, educational and technological advancements. Residents here battle illiteracy, poor sanitization, poor healthcare and also frequent droughts.

In such conditions, while most of the youngsters think of migrating to nearby cities in search of a better life, here’s a youngster on a mission to bring that very better life to the village itself.

Coming from a family of social workers, Aditya Tamshettiwar and his NGO, ‘SOMETHING SOCIAL’ have single handedly taken the responsibility to uplift Purkepar village.

Founded in 2019, ‘SOMETHING SOCIAL’ immediately adopted this village and since then have been working tirelessly to make it a village worth living.

SOMETHING SOCIAL is involved in extensive work related to hygiene, education, health care and skill enhancement.

Some of our work include:

-organizing of monthly health checkups for all residents with free doctor consultations & free medicines

  • Starting a reading library for students
  • Inculcating comprehensive ability in kids and children by organizing essay competitions.
  • Distribution of free books to students
  • Celebration of festivities like Diwali by giving free crackers and sweets
  • Identifying the need of self- dependency thereby teaching villagers craft like making things out of bamboo and cowdung.
  • Helping villagers sell their products by marketing and advertising them in the cities
  • Running women empowerment and tree plantation programs.
  • Helping parents with marraige expenses of their sons/daughters

Also during this unprecedented COVID crisis we have started a ‘wear mask campaign’ to educate villagers about corona virus. We have been distributing masks, sanitizers and timely ration kits to villagers and stuck migrants.

All this work is just a drop in the hat and with little efforts from each volunteer we beleive this village can soon become a self sustaining and a model village for others to look upto.
