Let’s talk … Something social !

Within the length and breadth of a vast country like India, there are numerous villages which are often overlooked by the government and whose majority of development depend on Non- Governmental organizations.

Emerging from the vidarbh region in maharashtra, located a little far-off from Chandrapur, is one such village – ‘Purkepar’.

A village so little that its entire population can literally be hand counted. Livelihood is difficult in this village with no structural, educational and technological advancements. Residents here battle illiteracy, poor sanitization, poor healthcare and also frequent droughts.

In such conditions, while most of the youngsters think of migrating to nearby cities in search of a better life, here’s a youngster on a mission to bring that very better life to the village itself.

Coming from a family of social workers, Aditya Tamshettiwar and his NGO, ‘SOMETHING SOCIAL’ have single handedly taken the responsibility to uplift Purkepar village.

Founded in 2019, ‘SOMETHING SOCIAL’ immediately adopted this village and since then have been working tirelessly to make it a village worth living.

SOMETHING SOCIAL is involved in extensive work related to hygiene, education, health care and skill enhancement.

Some of our work include:

-organizing of monthly health checkups for all residents with free doctor consultations & free medicines

  • Starting a reading library for students
  • Inculcating comprehensive ability in kids and children by organizing essay competitions.
  • Distribution of free books to students
  • Celebration of festivities like Diwali by giving free crackers and sweets
  • Identifying the need of self- dependency thereby teaching villagers craft like making things out of bamboo and cowdung.
  • Helping villagers sell their products by marketing and advertising them in the cities
  • Running women empowerment and tree plantation programs.
  • Helping parents with marraige expenses of their sons/daughters

Also during this unprecedented COVID crisis we have started a ‘wear mask campaign’ to educate villagers about corona virus. We have been distributing masks, sanitizers and timely ration kits to villagers and stuck migrants.

All this work is just a drop in the hat and with little efforts from each volunteer we beleive this village can soon become a self sustaining and a model village for others to look upto.
